Did you know an average of 850 000 Canadians, rely on food banks every month and that 40% of them are kids? Coming from all backgrounds and of all ages, employed or not, some will use food handouts as a short term solution while others will depend on them for extended periods of time. Beyond statistics, the true issue it that food insecurity remains an important problem in Canada. In 2014, in a community effort, Ford designated its different locations as drop-off and collection points for non-perishable goods and monetary donations. Again this year, we continue our mission to fight hunger in Canada.
In October, Ford hopes to collect the largest possible number of donations to help food banks across the country. In the last few years, more than 625 000 lbs were received and with your precious help, Ford hopes to reach 350 000 lbs in 2018 only.
