Ford has confirmed that an electric version of the Ford Explorer will be unveiled toward the end of 2023, possibly for the 2024 model year. This version will meet two important demands on the part of drivers: the desire to have an electric vehicle and the desire to get an SUV. Ford is not only combining these two demands, but is also raising the bar even higher by offering the only existing SUV with three-row seating in an electric version for the year 2023. Given that the Ford Explorer has been available in a hybrid version since 2020, it’s only natural for Ford to take the next step by releasing an all-electric version of this very popular vehicle.
The Ford Explorer is one of the most highly esteemed SUVs in the Ford lineup, which includes the EcoSport, the Escape, the Edge, the Expedition and now the Bronco. The electric version will be built on the Global Electrified 2 (GE2) platform, which will also host the next-generation Mach-E. The Lincoln Aviator EV, the premium SUV cousin of the Ford Explorer, will also make its debut in 2023.
The 2023 Ford Explorer EV will probably be just as versatile as the gasoline version, with an available third row of PowerFold seats, making it easier to manage cargo, not to mention the second row of EZ Entry seats, making it easier for passengers to get in and out. We expect that the 2023 Ford Explorer will feature the Advance Trac system with Roll Stability Control, which currently comes standard on the 2021 gasoline model. If so, it will also have a towing capacity of a whopping 5,600 pounds.
In 2023, the Ford Explorer EV will join Ford’s current lineup of all-electric vehicles, which includes the Mach-E compact SUV and the F-150 Lightning pickup. Which model do you think will be the next one to go green?
