The Ford Bronco Sport vs. the Jeep Cherokee

24 January 2022 Ford Bronco Sport

The arrival of the Ford Bronco in 2021 turned the all-terrain segment of the SUV category on its head. This model, based on its 1966 predecessor, can satisfy even the most fervent of off-road enthusiasts. The Ford Bronco Sport is the most compact, urban version of the Bronco. While the Bronco uses the same platform as the new Ranger, the Bronco Sport shares that of the Ford Escape. Consequently, this version competes directly with the Jeep Cherokee, a vehicle that has been traversing our roads for many years now. Why then does the Ford Bronco Sport overshadow this classic?

The roomy, economical Ford Bronco Sport

The Ford Bronco Sport represents an excellent compromise for those wishing to use it both for their day-to-day commutes in the city and for their weekend getaways in the great outdoors. Its exceptional fuel efficiency allows you to use it however you see fit, with no regrets; its 1.5 L three-cylinder turbo engine generates 181 hp and 190 lbf·ft of torque, while offering average gasoline consumption of only 8.9 liters per 100 km, the perfect combination of power and fuel economy. Even the least powerful version of the Jeep Cherokee is more energy-intensive than that. And for those looking for a thrill, the Bronco Sport is available in versions that are even more powerful.

When it comes to space, the Bronco Sport wins hands down. With the rear seats folded flat, it offers up to 1,846 liters of space, i.e. 297 liters more than the Jeep Cherokee. This is possible because of the dimensions of the Bronco Sport: being higher and wider, it also offers occupants more headroom and legroom. As a result, you’ll have no problem setting out on a camping trip with the whole family.

Is the Jeep Cherokee a safer option?

Did you know that the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) named the Ford Bronco Sport a Top Safety Pick+? The Bronco Sport not only boasts an impact-resistant cabin but also features the Ford Co-Pilot360 suite of safety technologies, which notably includes the Lane-Keeping System, Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, the Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert and much more. These technologies are only optional on the various models of the Jeep Cherokee.

We should also point out that the Bronco Sport comes standard with a WiFi hotspot (FordPass Connect), while a corresponding option isn’t available on all models of the Jeep Cherokee. Not to mention the rugged, modern design of the Bronco Sport, although this is a matter of taste…
